Subject: Do you have some time to help the homeless?
[on Friday October 17th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Belkin House (555 Homer Street)]
I am sending out my request far and wide in hopes of getting some additional volunteers for this year’s Project Homeless Connect event taking place Friday October 17th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Belkin House (555 Homer Street) as part of Homeless Action Week (see stophomelessness.ca for more information).
The purpose of the Connect event is to provide direct services to the homeless. The one day event will include health services, income assistance application intake, counselling, foot care, haircuts, shelter intake, as well as other services. Food and clothing will also be provided.
And we need you to come and help the day of.
If you’re interested, please take a minute to look at the [PDF] attachment and email or call me directly to let me know what shifts and jobs you are interested in. There will undoubtedly be other tasks that have not been captured by this list, but it gives us a start.
For those of you coming in the morning, there will be a volunteer briefing at 8:30. This will provide you with information on how the day will role out, where the washrooms are, etc. If you are only volunteering later in the day, we will brief you when you arrive. You will also be asked to sign a Salvation Army volunteer consent form. And finally, you will be provided with a t-shirt so that you are easily identifiable as volunteers for the day.
If you have a bit of time, please join us. And invite your friends! It’s a great event.
Let me know if you have any questions.
