re: New Executive Director for BPF!

Hi everyone,

I am happy to report that our long (and thorough!) search for a new executive director is over! Here are some words from our board president, Anchalee Kurutach:

“With my heart filled with gratitude, joy and excitement, I write to inform you that the BPF board of directors just met this evening (May 16) and voted to offer the ED job to Earthlyn Manuel. And, she has accepted it! Earthlyn is excited and really looks forward to becoming a part of BPF. She will start work on Tuesday, May 29th… In the months to come, we will work hard to make sure that this transition is successful. I humbly ask for all your support in welcoming and orienting Earthlyn to BPF.

The search process has taken so much time and energy from many many people during the last six months. I want to acknowledge all your great work and care for BPF. I am hopeful that Earthlyn will be a wonderful leader for the organization and that together we will accomplish our mission of bringing the voice of socially engaged buddhism to the peace and social justice movements across the nation.”

I’ll just add that I’m very excited to be working together with Earthlyn and I think you’ll really enjoy getting to know her. We’ll do a more formal introduction sometime soon, but just a little about her background so you can get a sense of how lucky we are to have her:

* Earthlyn has practiced the Buddha’s way for 18 years. She is currently practicing at San Francisco Zen Center and studying to take priest ordination; in the past, she was on the path of Nichiren Buddhism.

* She is a writer, teacher, and visual artist living. Among other things, Earthlyn is the creator of the Black Angel Cards, is the author of Seeking Enchantment: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Oppression (Kasai River Press), and was a contributing author to Dharma, Color, and Culture: New Voices in Western Buddhism (Parallax Press).

* She has extensive leadership experience in nonprofit organizations, including fundraising and development work.

* She is very warm and engaging, values building relationships, and is committed to peace and social justice issues.

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Earthlyn!

in peace,
