Spirituality and Sustainability – Thought Swap

February 26, 2007

BPF Logo - SmallKelty wrote to us about something she is working on with a group at UBC. This looks like an excellent follow-up to the David Loy event last Saturday. She also thanked all of us who were at that event:

Thank you so much to those of you at the talk on Saturday for an inspiring discussion and sense of community…I hope to meet you again soon!

All of what she sent us follows.

Hello everyone,

I’m writing because either you expressed interest in an upcoming event at UBC exploring sustainability and spirituality, or I already know you and think you’ll be interested. Please see the forwarded email below for more information on our planning meeting this week.

Thank you so much to those of you at the talk on Saturday for an inspiring discussion and sense of community…I hope to meet you again soon!

Take care,

The UBC Sustainability Ambassadors are looking to collaborate with you on a very exciting event! We are a student-run group designed to promote student awareness of and encourage commitment to social, economic, and ecological sustainability. We’ve run different events and workshops such as a career panel discussion and Thought Swaps (similar to a networking night).

This semester we’re organising an event that explores the connections between sustainability and religion/faith/spirituality. The purpose of this event is to encourage students, staff, faculty, and community members to get together and share ideas about this topic, in a forum for dialogue that we call a “Thought Swap”. At similar events in the past we’ve had an opening speaker and then split into discussions around various topics. We would like to hold the event during the first week of April.

We’d love your input and collaboration! Having the different perspectives each of your organizations represent will make the event that much better and richer. Our first planning meeting is set for Thursday, March 1 at 12:30pm on UBC campus. You are welcome to come and share your thoughts even if you don’t have time to commit to organizing the event. Please RSVP to Laura at lmelaniew [at] hotmail [dot] com. Also, if you’d like to be involved in the planning but can’t make it to the March 1st meeting, let us know and we’ll keep you updated.

Finally, we’d be very grateful if you could pass on any ideas for speakers and any resources you may know of.

Thanks, we’re looking forward to working with you!
